Kimberlee Walsh, MPAS, PA-C

PA Kimberlee Walsh was born in San Jose, CA. She grew up in San Jose but her younger years were also spent on her uncle’s cattle ranch in Whitefish, MT.  After graduating high school, she spent a few years in Phoenix, Az taking classes at the local community college in nutritional science. She moved back to California and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology–emphasis in Microbiology and a Minor in Women’s Health from Sonoma State University. She earned her certificate as a Lactation Specialist and had her own solo practice (A Mother’ s Touch Lactation Consulting Services) in Sonoma, CA.  Kimberlee has a passion for learning and went on to earn her Physician Assistant (now called Associate) Certificate from the UC Davis School of Medicine’s FNP/PA Program. After graduating in 2009, she worked for an Internal Medicine private practice in Sonoma for over five years and worked on earning her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical School. PA Walsh then practiced in Allergy, Asthma, Immunology in Napa, CA for 9 years while also holding a faculty position at Touro University California, Vallejo—Mare Island. As Assistant Professor she coordinated and taught behavioral health, clinical applications courses, and lectured in courses on gastrointestinal disorders, asthma/allergy/anaphylaxis, pharmacology, and psychiatry. She was the organizer and moderator for Touro University California’s Annual Mental Health Conference for four years. Kimberlee was awarded with the “A Caring Heart” by her students and colleagues.

PA Walsh moved from the North Bay to the Santa Cruz mountains in early 2020. She worked in urology for 2 years before transferring to Rheumatology. Kimberlee is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, Association for Women in Rheumatology and  RhAPP (Professional organization for Advanced Practice Providers in Rheumatology). PA Walsh is RhAPP’s Northern California Coordinator.

PA Walsh is a Path International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) and teaches riding and horsemanship lessons to people with disabilities (adults and children). Kimberlee is also involved in her community as a CERT member; co-teaches CERT and Stop-the-Bleed Classes.

Kimberlee is compassionate, a skilled listener, and enjoys working with her patients, seeing them holistically as a complete person not defined by their disorder. She wants to work with her patients as a team to help them live and have the best quality of life possible.

She is married to a business owner and has two children, a son and a daughter. She loves spending time with family, her pets, cooking/baking, reading, gardening and walking on the beach.

Michael P. Stevens, MD

Dr Michael Stevens was born and raised in West Los Angeles. He left LA to attend UC Berkeley and majored in Comparative literature (French/English). While at Berkeley, he experienced Clinical medicine when he became the first male counsellor at the University hospital Contraception Clinic. He subsequently volunteered Saturday nights in the ER at Highland Hospital in Oakland.
After graduation, he moved back to LA and volunteered at the UCLA ER. While there, a physician suggested he go back to medical school. He attended Santa Monica City College for pre-med courses. He applied to Medical school in his late twenties but was not accepted initially. Instead, he went to Mexico, took a 12-week course in Spanish and started his Medical career at the Autonoma Universidad of Guadalajara. After two years, he transferred to Boston University School of Medicine to finish his schooling. His internship and residency were at Kaiser San Francisco followed by a Fellowship in Rheumatology at UCSF.
After completion of his Rheumatology Fellowship at UCSF, Dr Stevens stayed in the Clinical faculty as an Assistant Clinical Professor helping train Residents and Fellows in the Rheumatology Clinic over the next thirteen years. In 1992, he purchased his current Rheumatology practice in San Mateo. Dr Stevens had been a solo practitioner in Rheumatology for 25 years when he asked Dr Bryan Gescuk to join him at the end of 2017.
While president of the Northern CA Rheumatology Alliance, Dr Stevens founded the Statewide California Rheumatology Alliance (CRA) in 2004. The CRA is a professional organization comprising rheumatologists in California dedicated to patient access to Rheumatology care. He served as President of the CRA from 2004–2010.
During his presidency at the CRA, Dr Stevens was invited to join the Board of Directors of the Coalition of State Rheumatology Organizations (CSRO) in 2004. The CSRO is a national group of practicing rheumatologists who advocate in Washington DC at the federal level to promote patient access to medical care. He served as president of this organization 2015-2018.
Dr Stevens is married to a Pediatrician, has two sons, enjoys golf, cooking, travel and fine wines. The staff at San Mateo Rheumatology have been with him for many, many years. We feel this is the best testament of all to the positive experience of working with Dr Stevens whose wit, dry sense of humor and easy going manner make working at SMR a pleasure.

Dr Gescuk

Dr Bryan Gescuk grew up in rural Ohio in humble circumstances. He excelled in sports and played football and baseball. He attended Harvard University where he played football there for four years while receiving his BA in Psychology. He then attended Boston University School of Medicine where he received his PhD in Pharmacology and then his Medical degree in 1996. He was voted Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He went on to specialize in Rheumatology and did his Internship & Residency at UC San Francisco followed by his Fellowship in Rheumatology there. It was during this Fellowship in Rheumatology that Dr Gescuk met Dr Stevens who was one of his Attending physicians in the UCSF Rheumatology Clinic.
Dr Gescuk spent time working as a Biotech Consultant and on the Scientific Advisory Board for the Genaissance Capital Group from 1998 – 2003. He maintained his affiliation with UCSF as an Assistant Clinical Professor from 2002 – 2005.
In 2002, he began working at the San Mateo Medical Center (formerly Chope Hospital) in San Mateo. He continues to work there now as Chief of Staff as well as Chief of Rheumatology. In late 2017, Dr Gescuk joined Dr Stevens at San Mateo Rheumatology where he divides his time seeing patients in our office as well as patients at the San Mateo Medical Center.
Dr Gescuk has received many honors and awards and he is well respected by his peers and patients alike. The staff here enjoys his friendly and good natured manner and his infectious laugh. He has been a wonderful asset to our Practice.
Dr Gescuk is married to an attorney and has one daughter. He loves sports, writing, reading, cooking, working-out and trips to the Napa Valley.
